TOMATO AND EGG CLUB MEETING at the Caroline Miller House

The Friends of Caroline Miller is hosting its final Tomato and Egg Club meeting of the year next Tuesday, October 17 at 6:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the Caroline Miller House, located at 96 Anthony Street in Baxley.

The Tomato and Egg Club meetings are reminiscent of ladies’ home making clubs of the past. Through FOCM’s research of the life of Caroline Pafford Miller in Appling County, we discovered that she was an active participant in the county’s Tomato and Egg Club. Laughter-inducing scenes of past years’ community play, In the Pines, which recollected Miller’s life and the lives of those which inspired her writing of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel A Lamb in His Bosom, have painted a picture of Miller and other community women gathering together for fellowship, encouragement and education. FOCM has enjoyed recreating a bit of this club atmosphere in the Appling County of today!

During the Tuesday, October 17 meeting local crafter, Jennifer Crosby, will help attendees create autumn themed dishtowels with appliqué and embroidery techniques. This lesson arrives just in time for those last-minute holiday gift ideas we are sure to need in the coming months! Refreshments and live music will also be enjoyed.

All are invited to attend! An admission of $5.00 will be charged at the door.
